¹⁶ Therefore, the Jews began to harass Jesus because he was doing such things on the Sabbath. ¹⁷ However, Jesus responded to them, saying,

¹⁸ For this reason, the Jews became even more determined to kill him, because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but also calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.
